Robert McKinley is a studio owner, designer, and artist based in New York. We had the pleasure of working with him on his latest project, ‘Captain Balfour’, a stunning Montauk coastal bungalow.

He styled it with a collection of handpicked pieces and hardware that together tell a story of intentional design, luxury, and coastal comfort.

“All of the bungalows we create are very, very personal,” he told Robb Report. “I’m consistent with the things I use. The products in the home are what I want to use in my house, and that was our one rule. We included pieces we really love and believe in.”

McKinley consistently turns to Emtek when designing his noteworthy spaces. For the doors throughout the house, he used Emtek’s Stretto Line.

He used both the Stretto 2’x10” with the Athena Lever in unlacquered brass to accent the dreaminess of this bathroom leading to the outdoor oasis. With Emtek, he was also able to match the unlacquered finish of the doorknob to the hinges. McKinley used our 4 ½” x 4 ½” Heavy Duty Square Corner Hinge to create a refined look.

For this entrance, McKinley used the same lockset combination of Stretto lock plate with the Athena Lever but complimented the door with Emtek’s flat black finish.

Emtek’s custom hardware combinations allow for a cohesive look throughout the entire house.

For the pocket doors, the Unlacquered Brass Round Tubular Locks were the perfect hardware to allow for privacy while tying the project together.

Thank you to Glen Allsop for these beautiful images and Studio Robert McKinley for including Emtek in this remarkable project.
